The Busy Mom’s Go-To Holiday Appetizer with #BoarsHeadHummus

I don’t know about you, but one of the things that stresses me out about holidays is all of the food. I love to eat it but I do not love to make it. I am not even close to a mom who cooks (heating and mixing is more like it), so when we have to prepare a dish for parties, I cringe and try to pick something simple that looks (and tastes) good. I generally try to go one (small) step above store bought. I’ve got no shame in my game about this!

Pinterest can be your best or worst nightmare when it comes to finding recipes and inspiration for party food. So, with the help of Boar’s Head Hummus, I’m going to help you cut through all of the noise and give you the one appetizer you need:

A Christmas Tree Veggie Tray featuring Boar’s Head Hummus

I am a big fan of veggies and dip and love mixing it up at the holidays with hummus. I love Boar’s Head for their flavors like their Roasted Pine Nut (I’m a sucker for pine nuts!), Kalamata Olive Tapenade, and Southwest Style Black Bean. You really can’t go wrong with any of these as a starting point.

What next?

Buy your Boar’s Head Hummus and some veggies. Simple right?

Boar's Head helps busy moms create a fool-proof holiday appetizer.

Here’s what I’d recommend:

  • Celery
  • Snap peas
  • Carrots
  • Red, orange and yellow bell peppers (we have a bag that comes with three colors)

You can add in anything else you’d like but make sure you have plenty of green veggies (you could add in broccoli for texture), and any other colors or shapes. Buy what looks fresh and is available- this is no stress, remember?

Once you’ve got everything home and washed, start slicing. I cut the celery stalks in half (some in thirds) and slice down the middle so they’re skinny. I cut the pointy ends of the snap peas.

Then, I arrange the green veggies as a tree!

From there, I use skinny carrot sticks as the trunk, use a yellow pepper to create a star at the top, and then use the remaining veggies to create the tree’s decorations. You can get as creative or as simple as you want here!

If a Christmas tree isn’t your thing, lay out the veggies in little squares like presents, or arrange in the shape of a star. Remember, it’s just one small step up from the normal and it makes a huge impact!

I make sure I have plenty of Boar’s Head Hummus, wrap up the veggies tight (you don’t want your beautiful work shifting during transit), and head out to the party, proud of myself for my quick, easy, healthy appetizer.

There you go: a busy mom’s holiday appetizer!
