Northstar California Resort: A Place for Families

Thank you to Northstar for hosting us for the afternoon- opinions of the day are all my own!

My family loves Lake Tahoe. We’ve been coming at least yearly since I was a kid. My husband I got married at the top of Heavenly (Summer, 2008) and honeymooned at Northstar. Tahoe holds so many great memories for us and we love sharing that with our kids now.

Lots of people think of Tahoe for Winter activities and while it’s great here when there’s snow, I personally LOVE Summers in Tahoe. The weather is amazing, the lake is fantastic, and there are so many family-friendly activities. I also love that you can head out without suiting up in a bunch of snow gear! It can still be a bit chilly in the mornings especially as early Fall rolls around, but it’s gorgeous and warm in the daytime.

On this visit we were so fortunate to have Northstar California host us for the afternoon. We took a ride up the Gondola- it’s so different seeing mountain bikers shoot down the Village Run instead of skiers and snowboarders. E, our 4-year-old was a little nervous to get on the Gondola, but loved the ride up the mountain once we got started. We had lunch on the mountain at the Downhill Grille, which was a great place for a quick and tasty lunch- good options for the whole family. I don’t eat meat (I do eat seafood) and loved the fish tacos!

Even though we’re not big hikers, we wandered around for a bit, with N in the Ergo- the terrain is calm enough that you don’t feel like you’re taking on a serious hike (Unless of course you head up another lift!). It was fun watching people and their dogs go up and down the mountain and E got a kick out of watching the bikers.

After the ride down, we visited the Summer Fun Center in The Village which has so many great activities for kids. The bungee trampoline was a hit and in addition to a rock climb wall, they have this really cool spider web the kids can climb up and then go down in an awesome tube slide. It’s over 20 feet high and makes me wish that adults were allowed in! E wasn’t up for the rock wall this time around, but maybe next year. There’s also miniature golf throughout the Village, great places for snacks and meals, and the toy store is always a place we have to visit.

I also love walking through and remembering the times we ate at different restaurants and all the memories we have from being there. We always have a great time at The Village at Northstar and appreciate them hosting our family this year. The summer season is a fantastic time to visit Tahoe and all of the hiking and summer activities are open Friday-Sunday through the first week in October.

We’ll be back at Northstar again this Winter for some skiing, but I can’t wait until next Summer to come back to Northstar California Resort and the Village!

  • It looks so fun! I’ve ridden my bike down Copper Mountain before, but haven’t visited Lake Tahoe yet. Bucket List!

    • Yes!! You definitely need to go at some point. I’m not super-outdoorsy and I have plenty to keep me busy, but for people who are, there is SO MUCH to do!! And pretty much everything is family friendly!
